The Plugin
Liefwork is an Obsidian plugin. Install it, select a folder, and see all of its contents displayed as a "coral" — a fractal expansion of the underlying structure. The parent folder becomes the root, subfolders become child branches, and every file becomes a lief growing from the branch that holds it.
It runs in the desktop app (Obsidian 1.6.6 or later), and it is in Early Access: the core is complete and in daily use, still moving quickly.
What ships today:
- The living map. Your folders render as a coral on an infinite canvas — chronological, zoomable, and quick to redraw even on a large vault.
- Another view of the same vault. A coral is simply the file explorer seen differently — every right-click command is still there, plus a few Liefwork adds: promote a lief to a branch, or reveal a file in the map. The explorer keeps working exactly as before; the coral sits alongside it, and a change in one shows up immediately in the other.
- Seed as Coral. Right-click any folder, select this option, and Liefwork writes the growth rules into
Growth Charter.md— open markdown any AI agent can read — plus pointer files (CLAUDE.md,AGENTS.md,GEMINI.md) that redirect each agent's own auto-load to the Charter. This, together with your initial prompt, will set the rules followed by agents working in that tree. Undo archives these rules while leaving any data created in place. - Coral Terminals. With the community Terminal plugin installed, launch an agent terminal from any branch. The terminal and its branch share a colour, so when several agents are running you can see at a glance who is where.
Your data stays yours. A coral is only the files in your vault rendered differently. Memory corals are folders reversibly seeded with the growth rules of the Liefwork Memory System. Nothing is ever uploaded, and there is no account to create. We do not care to harvest any of your data (beyond the odd email address with consent). The agent is the one you already run: Claude Code, Codex CLI, or Gemini CLI working in Obsidian - no API key to paste and no separate credits to buy.
The core version of the plugin is free, and the free version is the whole thing — every feature above, no trial, no locked functionality.
